Mont Saint Michel is one of the most incredible monasteries in the world. Built in the 8th century AD, this island has held a strategic location as one of France’s unconquerable fortresses. It’s location along the ocean with tidal swings of 46 ft between high and low tide, has kept this island safe from would be attackers. During the 100-year war the king of England made several attempts to seize the island but was unsuccessful due to improved fortifications.
