Wearing brightly colored cloth, these Maasai men stand around catching up on the day. Nomadic by historical records these men are the leaders of their particular tribe as the Maasai are a patriarchal society. Their location near some of Tanzania’s most popular wildlife reserves have made the Maasai exposed to western life and language. A diet of raw meat, raw blood, cow’s milk and maize. Once thought to have had to kill a lion for passage into manhood, now can only kill lions if they are attacked or if the lion has attacked their livestock. It was incredible to see them walking about the bush with nothing but a spear for protection.
