Antarctica 2020
During our time in Antarctica abord the MS Expedition we navigated endless large and small chunks of ice. Some were as large as several city block weighing thousands of tons. Some were not as obvious and only showed 10 percent of its mass above the water. Regardless of what we came across our ship was reinforced with icebreaker class steel. Obviously, we would not take on something the size of a building or even a truck but not once did I fear hinting the ice we decided to take on. Then, we came across a small sailboat. I was in awe of these sailors navigating the same ice, the same Drake Passage, the same harsh weather from time to time. It takes a different type of person to take on such an environment in something so fragile as a small sailboat.
