Wyoming 2020
Limited edition print of 100 – I had been looking for moose for a few weeks while in the Teton National Park. Without a great understanding of their behavior I kept a far distance. Learning from other photographers, naturalists, and experts. I gained loads of information and gradually worked my way deeper into the forest. I learned their preferred habitat. What time of day they are active. How to approach them while keeping both myself and them safe. Here, Shoshone approached me from the west. Sun at my back to highlight his massive antlers and dark coat. At first, he was unsure of my presence so I backed up to show him I was no threat. This simple gesture was enough for him to begin eating and eventually bed down for a late morning nap. Photo © copyright by Derek Nielsen
