Grandview
Arizona, 2020
Limited edition fine art print of 6 – During the height of the pandemic, I decided to move out west to spend time in nature instead of the big city of Chicago. All of our lives had changed over the first six months of the pandemic. I wanted to use this downtime in travel to focus on more domestic regions for landscape photography. The Grand Canyon had been on my list for so long. Nothing really prepares you for the enormity of it. All the pictures and movies in the world can’t prepare you for that feeling of standing on its rim looking deep into the winding canyons. I spent two days there and only walked away with one photograph. It’s not because I was taking bad photographs. It’s because the Grand Canyon paralyzed me with its beauty. Many of the hours I spent there, I never picked up a camera. This sunset was the perfect one to capture. Photo © copyright by Derek Nielsen
