Millions of animals follow the rains in search of new grass to feed. In turn, the predators follow or wait patiently for their return. The Mara River is a critical point in the journey. Filled with thousands of waiting, hungry Nile Croccidlies, the migrating animals sprint across the river using numbers as their greatest strength. Many don’t survive, but the majority do. The sheer numbers allow the species to survive. This migration is one of the most important environmental contributions to the region each year. Millions of hooves drop critical nutrients over thousands of miles, fertilizing the great planes and spurring new growth. This is a spectacle everyone should witness at least once in their lifetime.
