Yucatan Peninsula, 2023

 

While slowly paddling along the banks of Punta Lauguna Nature Reserve inside the Yucatan Peninsula, I spotted this apex predator searching for fish. The lush green background mixed with the reeds against the egret’s stark white body made for the perfect composition. Placing my camera right above the water gave a nice low perspective to frame it. Egrets stalk fish in the shadows with precision and accuracy. After watching it devour a few I am certainly glad there are none of these walking the planet hunting for humans.
