Candied Coast

Acadia National Park, 2021

Limited edition fine art print of 6 – Bass Harbor Lighthouse in Acadia National Park is one of the most iconic lighthouses in the United States. Standing atop the gagged rocky coast of Maine, this lighthouse has inspired artists for decades. This particular morning I watched the lobster and fishermen heading out in the early morning light with the distant sounds of harbor bells clinking in the background. The conditions were perfect for a beautiful sunrise. Just after the blue hour, the sky began to get tiny traces of pink and purple in the clouds. Using a longer exposure, I was able to saturate these colors while also smoothing out the undulating sea against the coast. The rocks picked up a fiery tint to them, and the combination lends itself to my favorite fine art print of Maine in my collection.  Photo © copyright by Derek Nielsen
