Wanaka is known for its brilliant setting amongst the snowcapped peaks and a clear glacial carved lake. A typical alpine resort town in some sense, having both a busy summer season for hiking and boating but also a busy winter season for skiing. A lonely tree along one of its banks has become a sensational celebrity. This photograph from Roy’s peak captures the setting from above. Wanaka is a gateway to the Southern Alps and Mount Aspiring National Park. If you’re looking to catch the sunrise on Roy’s peak know the 4 hours will mostly be in complete darkness.
