Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon is a dramatic landscape of beauty. Sunsets over the lagoon are particularly beautiful during the long spring and summer months. Sunsets can last for hours casting vivid colors upon the ice field. Surround by mountains to the east, north, and south the lagoon is sheltered by most wind directions allowing for glass-like reflections. This lake developed as the glacier began to pull away from the Atlantic coast carving out Iceland’s deepest lake at 814 feet deep. The stillness in this photo creates an illusion the center ice chunk is floating in mid-air.
