Patagonia 2020

Laguna De Los Tres is located at the doorsteps of Fitz Roy. A 6-hour hike from our camp, we had to start out in the middle of the night to make it to the top for a hopeful sunrise. We had been dealing with heavy winds and steady rain the most of the day before making any possible attempts dangerous under such conditions. After dinner that night I went back to camp to prepare for an attempt if the weather cleared. Around 1030 pm the sky opened up giving way to stars. I knew it was our window we had been waiting for. We grabbed our headlamps and headed up into the darkness. After hours of second guessing our path, listening as the wind howled through the trees and looking out for pumas, we arrived at Laguna De Los Tres. I set up my tripod ready to search out interesting compositions. As the light broke through the clouds and over the distant mountains the valley and peaks exploded with color.
