One of the largest primates on earth, orangutans are complicated intelligent species. Adult males live mostly solitary lives, only seeking social interaction to mate. This king of the forest shows signs of previous battles across his forehead. The teeth marks form a crown-like circle. His scars from his rivals are now, unfortunately, the least of his troubles. The Bornean orangutan population declined by 60% in the past 60 years and is projected to decline by 82% over 75 years. The main cause of this decline is habitat loss from the palm oil industry.
